About IPG — Forty Years of Engineered Adhesion

We started in 1981 with one plant and a single tape line. Today IPG operates 14 manufacturing facilities, ships to 28 countries, and maintains 1,200+ active SKUs for the construction and industrial trades.

IPG Manufacturing Facility

Built from the Shop Floor Up

IPG — Intertape Polymer Group — was founded in Sarasota, Florida in 1981 by engineers who believed that adhesive tape was being under-engineered for the demands of the construction trades. The founding philosophy was straightforward: if a tape is going into a wall cavity, onto ductwork, or onto a building envelope, it needs to perform for the life of the building — not just pass a shelf-life test.

That conviction drove the company to build its own polymer compounding and extrusion capability in-house, rather than outsourcing formulation to commodity suppliers. Today, IPG controls every step of its manufacturing process — from polymer blending and film extrusion to adhesive coating, slitting, and quality control — across 14 North American plants.

The result is a tape line where our technical team can actually explain why a product holds at -40°F, or why the adhesive doesn't cold-flow at 200°F in a mechanical room — because we designed it that way, and we have the test data to back it up.

IPG Quality Control Lab

200+ Adhesion Tests Per Month. Every Plant.

IPG's quality management system is built around the principle of test-before-release, not test-and-hope. Each production run is tested for adhesion strength (peel and shear), tensile strength, elongation at break, dielectric strength (for electrical tapes), and temperature performance before any roll ships to distribution.

Our R&D team runs a continuous improvement cycle on formulations — tracking field performance data from distributor callbacks, contractor reports, and independent testing — and feeds that data back into production specifications quarterly. It's an unusual amount of rigor for an adhesive tape program, but it's how we can stand behind an on-site performance claim rather than just a lab specification.

How We Work with Customers

Straight Answers, No Runaround

When you call an IPG application specialist, you get an engineer or a field-experienced technician — not a script. If we don't have the right product for your job, we'll tell you that rather than sell you the wrong one.

Technical Data Sheets, Not Just Sell Sheets

Every IPG product ships with a full technical data sheet: tensile strength, peel adhesion values, elongation at break, dielectric strength (where applicable), temperature range, and applicable standards. We assume you know how to read a spec.

Continuous Reformulation Based on Field Data

IPG collects callback and performance data from distribution partners quarterly. When we see a pattern of failures in a specific application condition, we reformulate — not just issue an application bulletin asking contractors to change their technique.

Work with a Tape Supplier That Knows the Trades

IPG's application team is available for product selection, sample requests, compliance questions, and volume pricing discussions.
